Fillings (White)

Why is dental filling needed?

X-rays or visual exams allow Dr. Park to detect dental cavity on an area between teeth or chewing surface. Many factors need to be considered. Oral hygiene habit, severity of cavity and affected location are examples of deciding factors. Once dental caries risk is too high to just leave it alone or watch, it needs to be removed. Otherwise, it will continue to grow bigger and bigger over time and start hurting once it gets close to the nerve space. Until this point, it does not hurt not because it's healthy, but because it's not too significant enough just yet!

After decayed area is removed, a filling is indicated for replacement.

What are options for fillings?

There are two different ways! One is silver filling. The other is tooth colored filling. At Park Dental, we don't use the silver filling (amalgam). The silver filling (amalgam) is mercury which is heavy metal. Although it's proven safe, we would NOT take any chance when it comes to your health!

A composite (tooth colored) filling will be used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc.

This filling will be matched to your tooth color so no one will know it is there.
