What is caries or cavities?

You may have been told you had caries in your teeth.

We won't be able to tell with our naked eyes, radiographs will tell us about that.

If you've been to our practice already, I don't always recommend to fix the caries right away but depending on how big it is, I will have to recommend to fix it right away.

After tooth color like fillings finished, you have to be able to use a dental floss and hear the click sound when it passes between the teeth.

Your bite should feel the same as before as well.

Why do I have to replace those existing fillings?

Back in the old days, a material of choice for dental cavity filling was that silver (amalgam) filling.

Even though it's mercury, it's been proven safe. Or so we thought.

However, Lewisville Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Park does not approve these silver fillings in his office for several reasons.

1. Always hairline fracture noted around these silver fillings. Thus,it's safe to believe it weakens the surrounding natural tooth structure, making your tooth prone to tooth fracture.

What on earth is Cavity?

We were told we had cavity but what exactly is it?

It's simply an area in your tooth eaten by bacteria and unfortunately it doesn't get repaired.

You can slow down the process to get it bigger by keeping very good oral hygiene but can't stop the process completely.

When your dentist shows you cavities in your mouth using x-ray or intra-oral pictures, don't panic!

If it were small enough, your doctor would say let's monitor and compare in next visit.

Or if it were big enough to concern, then you may have some work cut out for you!

You can start by one tooth at a time or one quadrant at a time!
